Spectacular day in the fjords

Yesterday was wonderful, and so busy that I was too tired to blog lost night. But it was definitely a very happy tiredness! Let me tell the story in pictures.

Sail into the Geiranger Fjord started (for me) at 5:15am

The mountains on both sides of the ship got higher as the channel narrowed.

By 8:30am I had come ashore to Hellesylt by tender. Katheine stayed aboard, having decided to take an afternoon excursion instead of the all-day one.

The skies continued to get more blue as we drove to the Briksdal Glacier.

The path up to the Glacier followed a rushing stream. I was glad to have my new trekking poles.

My pace was too slow, so I didn't get all the way to the top - but I had a good view of the glacier nonetheless.

Melted water from the glacier
Norwegians like to continue the tradition of having sod roofs, though apparently nowadays the sod lies on top of a modern roof.

There is still ice on this lake near the top of a mountain.

With a keen eye and a little imagination, you'll be able to see our ship way way down from the mountain lookout.

On the drive back down to the ship

Why would anyone watch sailaway on the big screen when you can see it for yourself??

Leaving Geiranger

Back in our cabin - a rainbow to complete a perfect day.
